Tokina Monthly Photo Contest – September 2025 winner announcement

Photographer's comments:

"Porthgwarra is a small cove situated on the South West of Cornwall near Lands End and is a popular astrophotography location, which I just had to visit.

I scoped the location during the day beforehand and wasn't disappointed with the beautiful costal views. The area is a picturesque setting, with rocky cliffs, and rich history as a fishing village.

Arriving at night, I was greeted by clear pristine skies and so walked down to the small beach to setup my composition. Luckily I had the place to myself and the little fishing boats were there which adds a nice interest to the composition. Due to tracking the milky way, I had to take a separate image for the foreground. To create the final image, both photos are combined or blended together in photoshop. The tokina lens has managed to capture fantastic detail and colour in the milky way where the dark dust lanes within the milky way core structure are well defined. I'm very pleased with the lens performance at capturing the night sky and shadow detail within the foreground.

Porthgwarra is such a great place to visit for astrophotography with lots of composition choices if one has the extra days and time."
